Just Opened, Dec. 2, 2011

Chris Ranck hosted Just Opened this week. Here are the CDs he shared with you:

RAY STILL
A Chicago Legend
Baroque Oboe Sonatas
Ray Still, oboe
(Vivaldi work includes:
Leonard Sharrow, bassoon
Robert Conant, harpsichord)
NIMBUS 5672
ISBN #7 10357 56722 3

JS BACH
Trio Sonatas
The Brook Street Band
AVIE 2199
ISBN# 8 2252 2199 2 0

MIKHAIL SIMONYAN
Two Souls
Khachaturian/Barber
London Symphony Orch.
Kristjan Jarvi, cond.
Chris took me by surprise with this one. I can usually depend on him to "go for Baroque." This week he kept raving about the Khachaturian. He says it has "hard corners" - it's not something you'll turn on when you want something comfy, but it's like reading a difficult book, a challenge, but exciting and worth the effort. This CD is Chris's "delight of the week."

THE BLAIR STRING QUARTET
from Mozart to Ravel
Warner Bros 45855
ISBN# 0 9362 45855 2 7

HAYDN
Piano Sonatas
Andrew Rangell, piano
BRIDGE 9313
ISBN#0 90404 93132 1
Andrew Rangel is as prolific as he is talented... he has many, many CDs to choose from, and the Bridge label has a solid "stable" of piano virtuosos. Chris says that Haydn is "always dependable."

We hope you enjoied this Just Opened with Chris Ranck.
