"Renee Fleming: Verismo" - Renee Fleming, soprano; Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan; Marco Armiliato, cond. "Verismo," or "realism" was an artistic movement of the 19th Century that affected all the arts, particularly opera. Renee Fleming pays tribute to the movement and the art, in arias and scenes by Puccini, Pietro Mascagni, Ruggiero Leoncavallo, Catalani, Cilea and Umberto Giordano. "Frederic Chopin: The 2 Piano Concertos" - Sa Chen, piano; Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon; Lawrence Foster, cond. the 29-year old's first CD for the PentaTone Classics label, in hybrid Superaudio CD format. Includes a bonus DVD featuring a performance of the Romance from the Concerto No. 1, and an interview with Sa Chen by journalist James Jolly. (PentaTone Classic 827949034169 / PTC 5186 341)

"Debussy & Ravel: Music for Two Pianos" - Vladimir and Vovka Ashkenazy, pianos. Featuring music written for two pianos, or arranged for two pianos and performed by father and son team Vladimir and Vovka Ashkenazy. Works include Debussy's "En blanc et noir," "Jeux," and "Lindaraja." From Ravel, "Entre cloches," "Rapsodie Espagnole," and "La Valse." (Decca 028947810902 / 478 1090)

"Charles Fernandez: Sentimental and Animated" - Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Charles Fernandez, cond. Fernandez has been composing for television and film since 1989; his scores are largely for children's programs and animated films. So it's no surprise that a certain whimsy pervades the classically-oriented pieces on this CD - the "Ratso Scherzo" for piano and orchestra; "Songs from a Child's Point of View," and "Animatus Eventus (Suite in a Cartoon Style.)" In a more "sentimental" vein, there's "Tone Poem" for Clarinet and Strings, and an Oboe Concerto. (Trone Music 753182233895)

"Mozart: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 & 2; Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola and orchestra" - Renaud Capucon, violin; Antoine Tamestit, viola; Scottish Chamber Orchestra; Louis Langree, cond. For Capucon's second solo CD for Virgin Classics, two of Mozart's Violin Concerti and a double concerto "Concertante" for violin and viola. (Virgin Classics 5099950211227 / 502112-2)

"The #1 Guitar Album" - A collection of guitar favorites on two CDs, featuring performances by Goran Sollscher, Pepe Romero, Andres Segovia, Alexandre Lagoya, John Williams, Julian Bream, Paco Pena, and Narciso Yepes. Works by Rodrigo, John Dowland, Vivaldi, Bach and Marcello - plus Flamenco music and selections by Lennon and McCartney. (Decca 028948003723 / B0010413-02)
